Is the 4K camera actually good quality or just marketing?
I was skeptical but the 3840×2160 footage is genuinely sharp. I can read license plates on playback and the 145° angle covers everything. Had a fender bender and the footage made my insurance claim painless. Real 4K, not upscaled.
Does CarPlay lag when the dash cam is recording at the same time?
No, and that surprised me. The V553 processor handles both without stutter. Three weeks of daily use—CarPlay and camera recording simultaneously. Zero lag. This was my biggest worry before buying and it turned out to be nothing.
Is the rear camera actually included or do I have to buy it separately?
It’s included. In the box. No extra purchase. AHD 1080P with IP68 waterproof rating and 5.5 meters of cable. I put it on my Tahoe and the image is clear even at night. This alone saved me $80 on a separate backup camera.
How is the rear camera at night? My last one was grainy and useless after dark.
Way better than the cheap ones I’ve tried. Night image is clear enough to see cars and obstacles. IP68 rating means rain doesn’t fog it up. I reverse into a dark driveway every night and it’s been completely reliable so far.
